Do not miss the sunset and be sure to bring your camera!
1 Hotel Hanalei Bay Beach
There are steps leading down from the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay Beach. They are located to the left of the main entrance as you pull up. The steps are equivalent to about nine flights of stairs. Precaution ~ you will definitely feel a burn on the way back up! We recommend you drive down if you have any knee problems or health issues. It is a very strenuous walk.
Close to Makai Golf Course
Pali Ke Kua is within walking distance to Makai Golf Course. Makai Golf Club is one of Hawaii’s top rated golf courses. Makai Golf Club renovated and redesigned their oceanfront course and it is spectacular lots of fun. The woods course is beautiful, challenging and very rewarding too.
Guests of Princeville Vacations enjoy taking part in Makai events and classes. Makai Golf Club has a very successful junior golfer instruction group that is very popular with our guests who have children.

Close to Kauai’s Best Beaches
Hanalei Bay Beach – Rated Number 1
Rated the number one tropical island beach and number one destination beach for vacations and honeymoons. Hanalei Bay Beach is not to be missed! Toward the Eastern side of the bay you will find the Hanalei Pier at the mouth of the Hanalei River. This section of beach fronts Black Pot Beach Park. Here you will find gentle waves great for families with small children and stand up paddle boarders. Look out to sea and on your far right, pretty far out, you will probably catch sight of surfers catching big waves. The outside reef kills the power of the waves and protects the right-hand, Eastern corner of Hanalei Bay.
Take a walk along the white sands. The lush vegetation and incredible mountain views reward you along the way. You will find larger waves rolling onto shore as you walk West away from the pier.
Anini Beach & Anini Reef
Anini Reef is the largest barrier reef in Hawaii. The water at Anini Beach is very shallow in parts. The reef appears to go on forever. Anini provides wonderful opportunity for snorkelers to explore the underwater nooks and crannies at the reef’s edge. Anini is great for beginner snorkeling too. Just be careful during outgoing tides; they can be strong. Please also remember to always swim with a partner and keep your eyes on the keiki (children) at all times. That being said, the rewards of snorkeling Anini Reef are tremendous.
Ke’e Beach & Tunnels
About eight miles from Princeville is spectacular Ke’e Beach. Ke’e Beach is the gateway to the breathtaking Kalalau Trail and the famed Na Pali coast. Along the way is Lumahai Beach & Tunnels. Tunnels is considered one of Kauai’s best snorkeling destinations. Many of Princeville Vacations’ guests vote Tunnels as their favorite beach. Just follow the main road to the North West until it ends. There is public parking and showers.
Sea Life on Kauai’s North Shore
You will likely see an array tropical fish. You may spot Hawaii’s state fish, the humuhumunukunukuapua’a (triggerfish) and uhu (parrotfish), kala (unicornfish) and other tropical fish. Take it very slow and you might spot a flounder or helmet gurnard camouflaged in the sandy shallows. You won’t be able to detect them until you catch one move! If you are lucky, you might spot a Lionfish or Leaf Scorpionfish, tucked between the branches of the coral. Whitemouth Moray Eels are also common on the reef here.
Sea Turtles
Sea turtles will come in to feed on the seagrass beds here. The sea turtles are not afraid of snorkelers and you can get close but please give them space. Never try to touch a sea turtle! They are protected and you could be fined $1000 for disturbing them.
Whale Watching
From your Pali Ke Kua vacation home you can spot whales during season. Humpback Whales begin arriving in Hawaii in October/November and head back to Alaska in late May. The peak of whale watching season is typically February and March. They come to the warm Hawaiian water to breed. During breeding season they are more active on the surface of the ocean. This gives you lots of opportunity to see the whales in their awesome glory.
