Princeville Vacations – Night Life on Kauai’s North Shore

Posted by

Days on Kauai are rich with opportunity for thrilling adventures and peaceful relaxation, surrounded by the exotic beauty of a unique Pacific tropical island.  While Kauai is world-famous for its abundance of daytime activities, a wild nightlife can be a bit harder to find on this sleepy, rural island.  For much of Kauai, the day ends with the sunset, and bed time comes early.  Despite the generally quiet nights on Kauai, you can certainly enjoy a fun filled island night, packed with local flavors and flair.  Instead of overly flashy nightclubs, Kauai has a handful of local restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a night out with friends and even make some new friends.  At Princeville Vacations, we would like to highlight a few of the local evening hotspots on Kauai’s North Shore.

For one of the most spectacular Hawaiian sunset views, including ocean, bay and mountains, be sure to stop by the St. Regis Bar, at St. Regis Princeville Resort, at least one evening during your stay.  As you may expect, being located in a St. Regis resort, this bar has a more expensive price tag than some of the other more casual bars on the North Shore, plus a slightly stricter dress code.  The one-of-a-kind sunset view is well worth any price for food and drinks, and the Bloody Mary menu offers some favorites.  The seating can fill up quickly.  So, be sure to arrive at least an hour before sunset, and sit out on the lanai, if possible.  The glow of the sunset painted across the sky can last for quite some time after the sun dips over the horizon.  Enjoy the slower pace of island life, and stay for the entirety of the colorful, natural event.  St Regis Bar offers nightly live music, including Jazz on Sunday afternoons.

As we mentioned in our last blog entry, Restaurant Recommendations 2014, North Shore Kauai, The Tavern by Roy, on the ground floor of the Princeville Clubhouse, is a wonderful place to spend an island evening.  The Tavern delivers delectable food, serving dinner until 10PM, along with strong late night drinks and Aloha spirit.  Also profiled in our Restaurant Recommendations article, Postcards Café offers a delicious dinner spread and welcoming evening atmosphere.  The Hanalei Gourmet, Bouchon’s Hanalei Grill and Sushi Bar, Tahiti Nui, and TikiIniki got our recommendation as well, because of their scrumptious food, potent tropical drinks, and happening night life.  Also noteworthy are CJ’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant, with live Hawaiian music on Friday and Saturday evenings, BarAcuda and Iti Wine Bar, which offers a quieter ambiance than its sister restaurant, Tahiti Nui.

Before heading out the door for your night of island pleasure, try calling a few different places to ask about any live music or special events that may be available that night.  Many locations offer live local music acts, which can change closer to the evening in question.  You will also want to be sure to call ahead for reservations, as policies can change.  For the most fun, wherever you decide to enjoy your nights in Kauai, remember to respect our treasured island environment and community and embrace the Aloha spirit, keeping Kauai beautiful and welcoming.

Remember to enjoy Kauai’s signature laid back atmosphere, both day and night.  Instead of stressing about finding the newest or most popular place to be seen each night, spend a night relaxing in your well-appointed rental home, with your companion, family or friends.  On your way home from your day of island exploration or spa rejuvenation, stop by one of the sunshine markets or local family owned Foodland Supermarket (open until 11PM) for fresh tropical ingredients for a homemade Mai Tai to enjoy on your lanai.  Take some time to truly absorb the day’s events and enjoy each other’s company, while soaking in the incredible evening and night sky.  With gorgeous weather comes breathtaking sunsets, which are celebrated around the island.  A short stroll or bike ride to one of Kauai’s noteworthy beaches will allow you to experience an exquisite scene which pictures can only attempt to capture.
