Kauai November Events

Hanalei OhanaNovember in Kaua’i is bursting with exciting events, including classes in local art creation, farmers markets, live performances, cultural festivals, art fairs, exhibits and holiday celebrations.  Whether your desire is for fresh and delicious food, enchanting music, knowledge and skills passed on by artisans, or simply a connection with a friendly and welcoming community, Kaua’i has the social and cultural abundance to satisfy.

If you are an early bird, start off your Thanksgiving holiday celebration in a healthy way, at Kapaa Beach Park, for the fourth annual Kapaa Turkey Trot.  This informal 5K/10K fun walk, run, or bike ride starts bright and early at 7:30 AM, with a 6:45 AM check-in on Thursday, November 28th.  To register for this festive morning exercise event, visit Kauaipath.org.  Bring family and friends, and even make some new friends on this free excursion, with both Start and Finish at Kapaa Beach Park.

For some fresh fair to include in your Thanksgiving feast, visit one of Kaua’i’s charming farmers markets.  While there are many farmers markets you may visit throughout the month, we can recommend a couple that will be open on the holiday.  From 9 AM to 12 PM, visit Coconut Market Place in Kapaa, for locally and organically grown Kaua’i produce.  Here you will be able to find fresh and exotic tropical fruits, flowers, produce and herbs, as well as gorgeous Kauai made products, supporting our local economy.

Are you busy in the morning or in need of some last minute additions to your holiday meal?  The Kilauea Farmers Market at Kilauea Neighborhood Center is the place to find what you need.  Starting at 4:30 PM, this sunshine market in stunning Kilauea offers a unique variety of organic produce and a kaleidoscope of tropical flowers.  Succulent mangoes, sweet sunrise papayas, apple bananas and the distinctive rambutan fruit are just a few of the delicious organic produce items available, along with a variety of greens and herbs, surpassing what you may find in any island grocery store.

Shopping at the local farmers markets allows you to connect with Kaua’i people in picturesque settings, while helping to keep local Kaua’i farming sustainable.  Be sure to bring your own reusable bags to easily carry home your fresh, daily picked purchases.  We also recommend that you bring small bills to make payment easier and a camera to capture the mesmerizing scenes.

Perhaps you do not want to cook or clean up after your Thanksgiving meal.  Enjoy a social event with others at one of our many local restaurants, cafes or resorts.  The Grand Hyatt Kauai Hotel and Sheraton Kauai Resort will both be offering Thanksgiving buffet dinners, including traditional Thanksgiving foods, as well as seafood and desert stations.  Reservations may be required, so do not delay in contacting the restaurant you wish to visit, to be sure that you can be accommodated, especially if you will be bringing a group.

Throughout the month of November, join the Kaua’i Museum for classes in local arts, including Hawaiian quilting.  For more fun on the Thanksgiving holiday, the Kaua’i Museum will offer workshops in LauNiu (Coconut Frond) weaving and Lei Hulu (Feather Lei making).  On Friday, November 29th, help bring a little Christmas charm to the Kaua’i Museum.  You will have the opportunity to create props and ornaments for a lovely display, while helping to set up “The White Elephant Benefit” for collections.  The museum focuses on cultural education and community building of the indigenous and immigrant peoples of Kaua`i and Ni`ihau, helping to create and sustain mutual respect and understanding.  Visit kauaimuseum.org for more information about the Kaua’i Museum and registration for these events.
